Project Description
The Metaxa Building in Kifisia is a historic mixed-use industrial and commercial development completed by MEKTIMA S.A. in 1965, at a time when METAXA—the globally recognized Greek spirit brand—required a larger, more accessible facility to support its expanding operations.
Originally operating from a property in Piraeus that housed all production, storage, and export functions, METAXA identified the need for a more strategic location with improved logistics. The company selected a prominent 80,000 sq.m. plot in Lower Kifisia, adjacent to the National Highway, providing enhanced access for distribution and operational scale.
Designed by renowned architect Stavros Vassiliou, the development includes 40,000 sq.m. of total built space, accommodating a mix of offices, production lines, storage facilities, and administrative operations. At the time of its completion, the project was considered a landmark development, both for its architectural clarity and its strategic foresight.
The success of the Metaxa Building had a broader impact on the area, setting a precedent for other major Greek companies to relocate or expand to Kifisia, recognizing its logistical advantages and potential for long-term growth. Today, the project stands as a significant example of early large-scale commercial and industrial planning in northern Athens.
